IGNITOR | IDXIGN1930
The Hayward Ignitor (IDXIGN1930) is a hot surface ignitor (HSI) used in Hayward H-Series Ground-Induced Draft Heaters to ignite the gas burner and start heating.
- Heater Call for Heat:
- When the pool thermostat detects the water is below the set temperature, it signals the control board to start the heating process.
- Ignitor Heats Up:
- The control board sends electrical power to the ignitor.
- The ignitor is made of a silicon carbide or silicon nitride material that glows red-hot (around 1200-1800°F) within seconds.
- Gas Valve Opens:
- Once the ignitor reaches the required temperature, the gas valve opens, allowing natural gas or propane to flow into the burner.
- Ignition Occurs:
- The hot ignitor ignites the gas, creating a steady flame in the burner assembly.
- The flame heats the heat exchanger, transferring heat to the pool water.
- Flame Sensor Verification:
- A flame sensor detects the flame to ensure proper ignition.
- If the flame sensor does not detect a flame, the control board shuts off the gas and retries ignition (to prevent gas buildup).
- Heating Continues Until Desired Temperature is Reached:
- The heater continues to run, heating the water, until the pool thermostat reaches the set temperature.
- The ignitor turns off, and the gas valve closes until the next heating cycle.
